3 Fabulous Reasons to Be in Los Angeles this October

3 Fabulous Reasons to Be in Los Angeles this October

Sunny Southern California is always nice. But this October things are really popping. If you’re thinking about traveling and are wondering where you should go next, here are three reason to be in Los Angeles in October of 2015.

1. Dracula at the Ace Hotel

This Halloween, Hollywood’s most alluring bloodsucker gets a new soundtrack. The original 1931 screen version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula was made when limited sound technology existed, so no musical score was ever composed and there were very few sound effects.

Legendary composer Philip Glass wrote a new film score in 1998. His music blows the cobwebs off this horror classic and adds depth to the emotional layers of the story.

This October in Los Angeles, in the gorgeous 1927 Spanish Gothic movie theatre at the Ace Hotel, Philip Glass will share the stage with the Kronos Quartet. Their live performance will provide an eerie aural layer as the film plays above them.

What a way to spend Halloween! Plus additional performance dates have been added. But tickets will go VERY fast for all of them, so get your tickets now! Here’s the link: http://www.laopera.org/season/1516-Season-at-a-Glance/Dracula/

2. Late Summer Evenings at the Hollywood Bowl

October in Los Angeles means the weather is mellow and pleasant so it’s a great time of year to enjoy an outdoor concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Temperatures reach highs of around 75º during the day and get down to the low 60ºs or high 50ºs in the evenings. Bring your thinnest California sweater. And a gourmet picnic of course. And you’ll want to get there early to enjoy the scene.

This October, whether you’re into Van Halen, Florence and the Machine, Duran Duran, Idina Menzel or Jimmy Buffet, you’re sure to find a Hollywood Bowl evening that fits.

3. LA County Museum of Art’s Annual Costume Ball

A must-do for SoCal art lovers and definitely worth getting tickets if you visit Los Angeles in October. This is not your average costume ball.

Last year’s Living Museum theme meant that you could “Party like Picasso” on Halloween night, in a museum full of walking, talking, drinking, laughing, dancing artworks. There was a pink Marilyn (a la Andy Warhol) and a pair of Diane Arbus twins and a living piece of Banksy street art.

If you’re planning to go to Los Angeles in October, get to LACMA but start brainstorming costume ideas now if you’re going. You’re going to have a lot of creative competition!

This year’s theme has not been announced yet. I suggest following LACMA’s FB page or the @LACMA twitter account for updates. Stay tuned!
