Vacation Rental of the Week: Cool Flex Space in Portugal
This fully-equipped, self-catering vacation rental is in Porto, Portugal and features flexible living spaces and modern design. The floor plan in this holiday apartment is unique, and there are four others nearby that feature a similar style. So if you’re traveling with a larger group, consider renting more than one.
These were originally loft-like spaces and the owner, Miguel, says they wanted to offer an extra bed without taking away from that open feeling. The designers settled on an unexpected solution. Mini-rooms (wooden boxes) were built a bit higher than the floor, with a drawer bed concealed underneath that can be pulled out.
The space in this apartment, as well as all the others in the group, is planned for convenience – as well as a definitive coolness.
There are furniture items from vintage stores, pieces of classic design, as well as new pieces. There’s a bit of everything. It’s an eclectic mixture. The dishes and the cups are all from secondhand shops. The soaps in the bathrooms are from a traditional Portuguese company.
In each holiday apartment there are also pieces by various local artists. The artworks are rotated periodically – and all are for sale.
The owners of this vacation rental offer a daily cleaning service and breakfast. They even have agreements with friends who can teach yoga onsite, offer massages, babysitting, and guided tours to Porto.
The old town of Porto is by the river and close to the ocean. In the old days, it was where wealthy Portuguese families had their summer houses and the neighborhood is probably Porto’s most expensive area, with some of the best-known restaurants in the city. There’s a Medieval portion of the city where you can’t take your car – it’s for walking only. It’s a mixture of really traditional, simple people and the elite of Portugal. A combination of contemporary and classic. Like this apartment.
