100 Words about
SmithHönig
Kellie Smith and Melanie Hönig met over wine, window treatments, and a box of salted chocolates. Both were recently married, both constantly creating. Their shared passions? Travel, color, and making things beautiful. Melanie became a client. Kellie designed her award-winning interiors. But it didn’t stop there. They began crafting luxurious, colorful home decor – the pieces they couldn’t find for their own projects. The result is SmithHönig, a celebratory mix of color, culture and pattern. Now they can help anyone create a bold, layered, expressive home. Considering a colorful update or an unexpected mix?. Answer SmithHönig’s favorite question: “Who says you can’t?”

How it started
A designer and a visual storyteller
Kellie and Melanie started with a few unique patterns - then found their products featured in department store windows, hotel gift shops and shelter magazines. They opened a showroom, added a warehouse, ordered more inventory, hired more people. Along the way, they continued traveling, creating new patterns, and experimenting with colorways. They met fellow makers and entrepreneurs around the world, and sourced unique handcrafted and vintage items from people they met. Embroidery from Bedouin women in the Negev Desert. Delicate grass mobiles from the Uros tribes of Peru. Vintage saddle bags, banjara tassels, hand-twisted camel swag, and more. Beautiful layers to add to their already colorful collections.
How it's going
They're two like-minded rebels
On some things, Smith and Hönig will never agree. (Food, for instance, and curse words.) On other things they're in sync. Neither is interested in perfection, the easy answer, or a daily routine. They crave color, creativity, even a little chaos...some intentional imperfection...a hint of age or the maker's hand.
What do they love? A colorful, modern vibe informed by historic design references. A celebratory blur of cultures. Rooms that make you remember something you'd almost forgotten. A rock-and-roll soundtrack. They design unique spaces - their own studios, offices, homes and Airbnbs - as well as client homes, and a brand new residential development on a former horse farm.
Their products are an unexpected (and totally workable) celebration of color and pattern that helps customers create luxe, layered and joyful homes.
