Clytie

$225.00

Known in modern times as Clytie, in Greek mythology, she is portrayed as a nymph who pined for the love of Helios and was turned into a sunflower. Modern Scholars consider her to be Antonia, the daughter of Mark Antony and mother of Emperor Claudius or perhaps she is Ariadne, a Roman woman of the same period. This sculpture was acquired by Charles Townley during one of his Grand Tours of Italy in the 1770s and is now in The British Museum.
