Antique Dragon Brooch
$65.00

This Damascene brooch is from Toledo, Spain. It features a winged rampant dragon, delicate floral motifs, and detailed decorative framing. In heraldry, the dragon symbolizes courage. This brooch would make a great gift for your most courageous friend, or your favorite dragon lover.
The Damascene process originated in the 14th century in Syria, and is created by hand chiseling metal and then inlaying various other metals into the decorative cuts. This piece is crafted in gilt and silver, inlaid into oxidized steel and features a trombone clasp. Damascene brooches from the Victorian era can go for four figures - but we believe this piece is probably from the 1940s to 1960s.
We love that it's edgy and feminine, all at once.
