The Bakuba Pattern Story
Our painterly interpretation of kuba, the traditional African raffia applique is Bakuba Lodge. True kuba is unique to the Congo (formerly Zaire) and is a highly-detailed abstract art form, widely studied for its complexities. For centuries, these geometric African patterns have influenced artists from Matisse to Picasso. Our version has been simplified into a repeat and treated with an evocative watercolor wash.
