Some patterns are born on paper. This one began in a palazzo.
While traveling through Italy’s Lake District, SmithHönig co-founder Melanie Hönig found herself captivated by one of her very favorite things - an unexpected cultural mash-up! She was staying in a former home turned boutique hotel, originally built by a Moorish-style-obsessed Italian cotton merchant. Think ornate arches, minarets, stucco arabasques, and tiled courtyards. A heady mix of Italian romance and North African geometry. Never without a camera, Melanie spent hours exploring the space—chasing shadows, capturing angles, and soaking in the contradictions: Italian Terrazzo floors, soft light through iron grillwork, massive chandeliers, antique beds, elaborate knotwork carved into plaster.
Back in the studio, she transformed those architectural details into something fresh—layering her signature color washes and painterly textures to create a pattern that feels both storied and modern.
The result? Moroccan Knot. A pattern grounded in history, reborn in a modern color palette, and designed to bring other-worldly elegance to your walls, windows, or favorite chair.

Fabric Care Notes
Our cotton/linen fabrics are as practical as they are beautiful. To keep them looking their best: Spot clean with a mild detergent and damp cloth when needed. For deeper cleaning, dry cleaning is recommended—especially for upholstered items or sewn pieces.
A little care goes a long way—these natural fibers age gracefully, becoming softer and more character-rich over time. Just like all the best things in life.
Kate Pearce of Kate Pearce Vintage went big, gutting her kitchen and bringing in a mix of high/low and new/vintage. Cantilever bar stools sit with Ikea cabinets, quartz countertops and custom roman shades made with SmithHönig Moroccan Knot fabric. Additional vintage touches include reclaimed wood shelves and a Boujad runner. See more of Kate's kitchen, above.
Fresh, Edgy or Ethereal?
Style if your way. Moroccan Knot is a shape-shifter. Go fresh and ethereal with soft aqua and lavender. Pair it with black, red, and yellow like Kate did. Dial it up with edgy hits of coral and red. Bring out the blues for something more classic. Ground your space with olive and gray for an elevated, and more neutral vibe.
Whether you use it as a bold accent or go all in—walls, windows, pillows, upholstery—this pattern adapts to your mood and your space. Whatever you create, it’s going to be unforgettable.
