The word “ikat” comes from “mengikat,” the Malaysian term for “to bind” or “to tie.” Traditional ikat uses a complicated tie-dying process in which loose threads are bundled with blades of grass or wax-treated cotton before weaving. Our ikat pillows use textile fragments, and our ikat prints are inspired by the process.
