We Turned Up The Saturation at High Point Market
If you know anything about SmithHönig, it’s that we love the unexpected places a journey takes us – being inspired by the people we encounter and places we experience along the way is in our DNA. So, we were sure our first trip to High Point was going to be amazing, but we really had no idea how impactful our first trip to market was truly going to be.
After all, when it comes to design industry events, it doesn’t get much more exciting than High Point. It was just two years ago that we were starting out and at AmericasMart Atlanta for the first time, and at that moment attending High Point seemed like a faraway dream. Now we’ve welcomed thousands of interior designers, shop owners, bloggers and influencers through the folds of our one-of-a-kind tent into our boho luxe world, with a glass of prosecco in hand, naturally.
Once inside they lounged on our luxurious ottomans and velvet pillows inspired by English hedgerows, experienced the rich possibilities of layering with Japanese shibori-style fabrics, and discovered our custom handmade tassels. I got such a kick out of watching all of these different people have a trip of discovery through our tent—running their hands over the luxe faux fur of our new Nordic pillows, examining the prints of our new Ravenswood collection, and plain just having fun with our tassels—shaking, shimmying, and sharing them on social media.
The people we connected with during the event were fantastic—we were especially excited to meet everyone who was a part of the High Point Market Design Bloggers Tour—and it looks like they were just as happy to meet us (yay!):
“This High Point Market turned UP the saturation. It was a bright, beautiful, maximalist heaven everywhere you turned.” Lori Dennis, celebrity lifestyle designer.
“SmithHönig is the embodiment of Boho Luxe Maximalism. Their space at High Point Market had me on the floor with the Bedouin tassel tent and style galore!” Rachel Moriarty, designer and 2020 High Point Market Style Spotter.
“A highlight for sure, SmithHönig. We have tassels coming that everyone should have. Watch for their arrival so you can purchase on my website. The entire collection is awesome. Excited to work with them.” Sara Willer Noble, Noble Designs.
We were most eager to see the reactions to and hear what everyone thought of our latest creations: the Ravenswood collection, Nordic pillows and luxurious ottomans. The Ravenswood collection is inspired by the country houses of England and Scotland and I happily relive my memories of castles, rocky landscapes and layers of history (and, ahem, men in kilts) every time I see one of these new patterns. While designing this collection, Kellie and I played with the idea of tapestries and the chinoiserie wallpapers found in grand old homes, but we made it our own by using fun colors and adding whimsical touches, giving it a completely new, and wholly modern feel.
We also love the duality of our new Nordic pillows – each pillow showcases a playful print on one side, backed with luxe faux fur (which is just calling out to be cuddled) on the other. “Fabric heaven! Be still my maximalist heart! Smith Honig offers dozens of fabrics by heart and introducing the Nordic pillow – one side fabric/one side cozy faux fur.” Anita Severn, Curated Home Brands.
We were thrilled to have so many of our favorite designers, bloggers, creatives and industry colleagues visit us at High Point. While we are exhausted, we are also really energized—and inspired by—the experience. I’ve always heard that you find your people at High Point, and the spirit of togetherness and community and the endless flow of kindred spirits that joined us there made me know it’s true.
