Vacation Rental - Venice, Italy

Vacation Rental - Venice, Italy

It’s been a while since I wrote a Vacation Rental of the Week post while sitting in the apartment I’m writing about. But I’m doing just that right now.

Today’s the day we leave our charming attic apartment in Venice, Italy.

This home stay was everything I had hoped it would be. The selection process started some time ago, and I now know I chose wisely. To be perfectly honest, I felt completely at home here, from the moment I opened the front door and kicked off my shoes…

The apartment could not be more conveniently located.

When you arrive by boat to the San Samuele dock, you are just steps away from the front door. And while the apartment is on the top floor, there is an elevator that deposits you there easily with all your bags.

We were greeted by our charming hostess, Signora Barbero and made to feel welcome. She had even provided some bread, butter, jam, coffee and milk to start us off.

The apartment is located in the Palazzo Malipiero, which was originally constructed in the eleventh century. And, from the window ledge, you have this amazing view of the Grand Canal…

Inside, you have a stylish and comfortable home away from home. There is a small kitchen with all the necessary equipment (no oven, but everything else, and who comes to Venice to bake?).

The large and bright parlor and dining room is perfect. Contemporary art, books (in English and Italian), a writing desk, two separate seating areas and a television make the space efficient – and stylish.

Here’s the seating area on the other side of the space…

The Master Suite features a simple, comfy bed, a large bathroom with tub, shower, two sinks – and a bidet – and this fabulous view to wake up to each morning.

There’s also a tiny balconette (just room for two tiny metal stools) – and more storage than you will need. The closet system is an ingenious use of space, with lots of hanging space, drawers and areas to stash your suitcases. I stayed for weeks, so I was pleased to keep my luggage out of sight and out of mind.

The guest room is off the main room and up a steep stair. There are curtains rather than doors, which keep it airy and bright, but if you’re traveling with two couples, you may want to make sure this (and the steep stair) works for your traveling companion/s.

The guest room has it’s own seating area, a beautiful marble bust, an antique armoire, contemporary art on the walls and a door that opens out onto a balcony.

In a small entry hall there is a charming antique cupboard filled with china. There is also a second (tiny) bathroom.

Outside, you are steps from excellent restaurants, shops and galleries in a quiet, residential neighborhood. Here I am on one of my first day’s exploring.

The busy tourist areas of Plaza San Marcos and the Rialto Bridge and markets is an easy and interesting walk. The Accademia is just across the bridge. You’re very close to the Palazzo Fortuny and across the square from Palazzo Grassi. And wherever you turn are cafes, ristorantes, shops, bars and exhibition spaces.

And you’ll enjoy putting your feet up and relaxing in your quiet holiday flat at the end of the day.

All of Venice is conveniently just outside your door.

I;m sad to pack my bags and leave this charming apartment today. It’s time. But I know I’ll be back.

I’m planning another trip to Venice – and hopefully, this same apartment – for sometime next year!

The direct link to this beautiful holiday flat – which I selected from Airbnb – is below. Do note that longer stays (like mine) can be significantly less per night than short ones.
