10 Ideas For Gracious Guest Rooms

10 Ideas For Gracious Guest Rooms

As frequent travelers, we’re always keen on finding places that are comfortable and chic in which to rest our weary heads. So we’ve taken a look at some of our favorite places and tried to replicate the same warmth and comfort into our own homes, especially in guest rooms. Guest rooms are little hotels for family and friends. If you frequently host guests, consider these guest room ideas that will elevate your visitor’s experience.

1. Minimalist and Rustic

Guest Room Ideas

If you subscribe to the Less Is More movement, the basics are a good way to start in furnishing your guest room. Keep it simple. A sturdy bed, a place to keep clothes, and a bedside table should do it, but if you style it with a warm, organic theme similar to this greek stone villa, with white plaster walls and exotic lanterns, your guests will feel transported to the beautiful Mediterranean, even if you’re in the middle of suburbia.

2. Moorish and Exotic

This was the interior of our riad room in Marrakesh. How perfect is that? Consider adding decorative tile your guest bathroom, or having a dedicated sitting area for guests to lounge apart from the bed.

Not ready for a big tile commitment? Check out Boho Luxe Home’s Moroccan Knot peel and stick wallpaper. You can use it to create a Moorish vibe – perhaps just on one feature wall, behind the bed.

One of the best guest room ideas is to keep colors happy and bright, so you don’t have to worry about specific color schemes to match with. Certain colors literally go with everything—and layering them is even better.

3. Shelter in Stone

A stone cottage conjures up images of rustic European farmhouses, wildflowers, and vintage linens, doesn’t it? The roughness of the exposed beams an stone work well with the simple bedspread and the plush throw pillows in the sitting area. No spare stone cottage, you say?

This is another look that’s easy to replicate. Keep the mix in mind. Plush with rustic, hard with soft. Paint your walls off-white. Bring in a heavy wooden headboard. Lay a Persian rug on the floor, throw in some of these unique decorative pillows, and hang some neutral drapes. Voila!

4. Beyond the Beach

We’ve yet to meet someone who doesn’t like the beach. And what better way to say “VACATION” than this coastal love bedroom adorned in shades of blue and white.

Don’t you think the wicker bedside tables go swimmingly with the printed curtains? Deck your guestrooms in coastal colors, wicker, and oceanic art.

5. Inn Love

Awkward spaces are fun to design. It’s so satisfying once it all comes together! If you’ve got a teeny room like this, here’s a clever idea to turn it into a useful space. That’s a twin bed AND a bathtub. Sweet, isn’t it? See how the headboard and duvet covers luxe it up? The muted white and gray palette is reminiscent of a European flat and can be a super cozy home for a night or two.

6. Textures Galore

Guest Room Ideas

Expect your visitors to extend their stay if your guest room looks like this. With the intricate headboard and the textured blanket, nothing says “welcome” like the pouf floor cushions and the geometric print rug.

7. Bohemian Meets Rock & Roll

Sometimes we have to get a guest room ready in a rush. If your guests are commonly single travelers—a parent, a college-age kid or a couch-surfing friend—then daybeds are a great solution. Just keep the dreaded (gasp!) airbed in the basement in case you end up with a crowd.

Check out this Maroc daybed made better with Boho Luxe Home’s fabric and accessorized with their unique pillows! Maybe your guest room is temporary – but it’s definitely chic.

8. Chandeliered and Chic

Chandeliers just make any room more opulent, don’t they? This room features a simple monochrome palette. But look how the chandelier enlivens the space. Almost any room can benefit from a great light fixture. Now it’s chic and ready for friends!

9. Work and Perk

Our guest rooms often pull double-duty, like a sleeping area AND a home office. Your guest room can still be welcoming with the right layering of textiles and a mix of pillows. Check out this office that seemingly disappears into the wall and creates an unobtrusive space for resting.

10. The Extra Mile

Let’s talk about amenities. It’s the little touches that your guests will remember. Make sure there’s plenty of places to keep their valuables. Stock the shower with mini shampoo bottles. Make sure there’s a phone charger in the room and an easy to reach outlet for charging computers. If there’s a pool, provide guests with flip-flops or sunglasses. This ethnic bowl makes a great centerpiece stacked full of sunnies (more travel souvenirs here). The little extras will cement your status as the hostess with the mostest.

We hope these guest room ideas will help make guests’ stay worthwhile. Happy hosting!
