Seana @bellybaila here... one last time taking over the page here at Smith Hönig! So when I updated my deck I did so with a few things in mind:
1. Coziness. I live in a downtown neighborhood and the lots are fairly narrow. Although my backyard is deep, its not very wide. My backyard area is very close to my neighbors. Building a privacy wall helped the space feel a bit more private and cozy. Also incorporating objects like pillows, throws & decor that you typically see indoors also raises the cozy factor. We have already talked about pillows, but Id add things like nesting bowls, decorative beads and even tassels to make things really homey. SmithHönig has some great options!

2. Seasonality. We are well into Autumn but that doesnt mean we have to stick to only orange and brown. As you see here I have my orange & brown, but have also infused deep blues and pinks for fall. Also, there are string lights that extend around the perimeter that allow for more use as days get shorter.

.
3. Plants. This is a big one! Plants make everything look better- indoors and outdoors. Its still in the 70s & 80s here and I'm still rocking with my summer plants- Yucca, Vinka, and Hoya. For Fall I swapped in some mums and a cute lil Bromeliad. I stuck with low maintenace options and they are thriving and giving me life!

Im going to be honest with you, my outdoor furniture is a little meh 😑... Ive had it for 5 years and purchased it when I was on a tight budget after having just bought my first house. Budget is a reality for most of us. We can't just up and buy all new furniture on a whim once we are a bit tired of it. Thats when the power of accessories comes in!

.
A few throw pillows and cute accessories can work WONDERS to rejuvenate a space and give it a whole new look. This is true inside as well as outside. My outdoor furniture is brown- Yay... exciting! (said with deep sarcasm 😂). So the colorful pillows played a huge role in giving the space my version of Autumn energy. I went with some of the brightest pillows they have 💜❤🧡💙 . I wanted to combine patterns & colors in fun and unique ways to create a real pop!

If your vibe isn't quite so vivid, Smith Hönig has a variety of options in subtler hues as well. I urge you to think about how a few new pillows might invigorate your indoor or outdoor space and check SmithHönig's amazing options! Last but not least, the Henna tassel and brass nesting bowls, also from Smith Hönig, helped to make the space feel more cozy and like a true extension of my living room.

Note, I already had the rug from years ago but it always looked odd being underneath the brown furniture. Id bought cheapy outdoor pillows in the past that faded and got damaged from the intense North Carolina sun. I'm happy to say that these Smith Hönig pillows have been on my uncovered deck for the last month+ - thru intense sun AND rain. They look and feel exactly the same as when I got them!
